Why does Google not follow their own instructions?

Posted in All, News by sw on the February 21st, 2006

In google analytics instructions for adding tracking to your site is says..

Copy the following code block into every webpage you want to track. Click in the box below to select all code. Copy and paste the code segment into the bottom of your content, immediately before the </body> tag of each page you are planning to track. If you use a common include or template, you can enter it there.

This seems fairly straight forward. I have noticed it usually takes a long time for the status of your site under Web Profiles to change from Verifying site to Receiving Data. I have stuck with the instructions by adding the analytics code immediately before the tag.

Then while checking out Google’s Official blog I noticed Google doesn’t even follow their own instructions. View the source of the blog and notice where they put the analytics code. It is in the <head> tags of the page.

Posted in All, News by sw on the February 11th, 2006

treo_verizon_700w.jpgThe Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering proposals that may eventually allow you to use your own cell phone or wireless data device on airplanes after take off. Currently, cell phone users generally are permitted to use their phones before takeoff and after landing. FCC rules currently ban cell phone use after a plane has taken off because of potential interference to cellular phone networks on the ground. In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has rules prohibiting in-flight cell phone use because of potential interference to navigation and aircraft systems.

Who gets paid more you or Google co-founders?

Posted in All, News by sw on the January 24th, 2006

Well since about everything you see on the web has google mentioned on it you wouldn’t think you get paid more money than any of the top 3 Google executives.  Chariman and CEO Eric Schmidt and co-founders and co-presidents, Larry Page and Sergey Brin aggreed to be paid annual salaries of $1 each in 2006.  So does that mean if they need a loan from the bank they have to go on stated income and take the higher interest rate?  Probably not because I can’t really think of anything the world they would need a loan for to buy.  On Friday January 20, Google had a 14 percent decline in the company’s stock price because of a legal spat with the US Justice Department.  On Monday January 23, Google shares rebounded back up 7 percent for a gain of $28.04 per share.  This gain meant that Schmidt’s shares had gained $413.8 million in value in one day of trading.  Not bad for a loomy Monday.  Schmidt’s total value in Google closed at roughly $6.3 billion on Monday (resource).

Verizon and Palm came out with the Treo 700w recently. Verizon’s Treo 600/650 comes with a software package called Intellisync, which allows you to push your corporate email (MS Exchange and Lotus Notes) to your Treo. According to a Verizon employee the 700 supports the same software except currently Verizon is experiencing problems with email taking 30 minutes to get to the 700w.
